Bead-Bean Tree Overview
Maerua angolensis is a shrub or small tree and is an attractive ornamental for garden planting especially in the drier parts. It is semi-decidious, loosing some of the leaves yearly. The plant is often rather rambling, with spreading or drooping branches and is aptly named for its long, drooping button-like bean pods that appear in summer after flowering. A charming tree with long knobbly pods but unfortunately not easily available from nurseries.
