Orthrosanthus Overview

Native to parts of Central and South America and Australia, members of the Orthrosanthus genus are rhizomatous flowering perennial herbs in the Iridaceae (Iris) family. There are around 9 species in this genus and they are characterised by their layered fans of linear, sword-like often toothed leaves and usually blue (rarely white) flat saucer-shaped 6-petalled flowers. They are frost-tender plants and in cultivation need winter protection. They prefer full sun and well-drained soil.
