Dampiera Overview
Dampiera is a genus comprising of around 70 herbaceous perennials or shrub species which are endemic to Australia and thus only found there. These plants reside in the Goodeniaceae family and have interesting blue-purple flowers with lobed petals and yellow centres. The leaves vary across species, they are generally small and may be rounded or lobed, some species have distinctive diamond-shaped leaves such as Dampiera stricta. This genus is named after a historical figure, William Dampier, who was the first Englishman to explore Australia. Some species are common garden plants, grown for their ornamental value and pretty blooms.
