Persian Ironwood Overview
Parrotia persica is a deciduous tree or large shrub in the witch-hazel family, Hamamelidaceae. Commonly known by the names Persian Ironwood and Iron Tree. It can grow to over 8m in height and produces beautiful, deep green leaves that display attractive autumn colouration, turning shades of yellow, gold, orange, purple and red in autumn. This species often forms multiple stems and has attractive flaking bark, it has a spreading habit and grows best in full sunlight. Flowers are small and bright red in colour, these are borne on bare stems.
