Queen Palm Overview

Syagrus romanzoffiana is a singled-stemmed palm species in the Arecaceae family. This plant originates from South America and the Caribbean, it is also known as the queen or cocos palm and it is the most commonly cultivated species in this genus, both for its fruits and ornamental appearance. It has pinnate leaves composed of many leaflets, these may be up to 5m in length. It produces yellow-cream flowers arranged densely in hanging clusters which may reach up to 2m and edible, oval, orange-coloured, drupe fruits. It is a common sight in urban landscaping in tropical and subtropical areas. Capable of growing to 20m high.
