Lace Hedgehog Cactus Overview
Echinocereus reichenbachii is a perennial cactus species from the Cactaceae family which is also commonly known by the name Lace Hedgehog Cactus, amongst others. It has an erect growth habit, producing cylindrical, spiny stems with abundant ribs. Typically growing to around 35cm tall, this species produces large, funnel-shaped pink-purple flowers measuring 6-9cm in width. This species is naturally found in shrub and grassland environments in Mexico and the United States. Wild populations of this plant are considered to be stable and this species is listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as least concern. In the gardening world, this plant has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
