Sowbread Overview

These are tuberous perennials which are native in the Mediterranean region and southwest Asia, some of which are occasionally evergreen. The round tubers will sit on or just below the soil surface and will bear fleshy, heart-shaped leaves often with light or dark patterns on the upper surface. The flowers have 5 petals, are borne on single stems, are red, pink or white, and may be scented.
