Monkey Tail Cactus Overview

Cleistocactus winteri subsp. colademono is an interesting cactus plant in the Cactaceae family. Commonly known by the name Monkey Tail Cactus, this references the long white hair-like spines the plant is covered with, like a monkeys tail. It tends to branch at the base, forming cylindrical, light green stems measuring around 7.5cm across. These stems can reach over 2m in length, they grow upright initially, developing a hanging habit with time. This plant originates from Bolivia, growing well in full sunlight and well-draining soil. It produces showy red to orange-pink flowers measuring around 7.5cm in length. Termed lithophytic, this means the plant grows without soil on or in rocks.
