    Castor oil tree Overview

Kalopanax is a genus with just 1 species of deciduous tree in the Araliaceae family. It is native to Northeastern Asia but naturalised in other regions. It produces spiny stems and large Fatsia-like, hand-shaped leaves and large umbels of small white flowers. Commonly known as Castor Aralia or Tree Aralia, the sole species is cultivated in temperate zones for its tropical appearance and surprising hardiness.
