Crocosmia is a genus of around 10 hardy evergreen or deciduous, perennial, corm species. They originate from grassland habitats in South and East Africa, with one species restricted only to Madagascar (C. ambongensis). Foliage is sword-shaped with parallel-veined leaf blades, but they are mainly grown for their bright inflorescences, which are showy and consist of 4–20 red or orange flowers. This genus has been cultivated worldwide, with over 400 cultivars available. Some hybrids (such as C. aurea × C. potsii = C. crocosmiiflora) are considered invasive weeds in locations such as the UK and New Zealand.
