Areca Palm Overview

Dypsis is a genus of around 140 evergreen multi-stemmed palm species that produce yellow flowers and are characterised by their ability to branch aerially above their main trunk, a growth habit not seen in many palms. Some species retain their leaves and utilise these to capture nutrition. Some species are very vulnerable and only exist in highly restricted locations such as Madagascar. Other species are widely grown as ornamental garden plants in tropical and subtropical climates or in cooler climates, indoors as houseplants (such as Dypsis lutescens).
