String Of Turtles Overview

Peperomia prostrata is a popular small-leaved, evergreen perennial from the Piperaceae family. Commonly known by the name String Of Turtles. It has a mat-forming habit. It produces perfect little blue-green, button-shaped round leaves that are etched with an attractive pattern of silver-white veins, borne on trailing stems. These are threadlike, creeping, and they intertwine delicately. Red-brown flowers are borne on thin flowering spikes. String Of Turtles is not hardy, requiring temperatures above 5ºC. It is best grown as a houseplant in temperate climates. Place in a position of bright but not direct sunlight, in well-draining soil, for optimal growth. Peperomia prostrata doesn't take well to movement due to its delicate stems and takes time to adjust to new locations. This is handy as it is happy being moderately root-bound and doesn't like to be re-potted too often! Its biggest enemy is over-watering - always keep the soil slightly moist, but not wet.
