Wild Jonquil Overview
Narcissus jonquilla - Wild Jonquil, or just Jonquil, as it's also known - is a bulbous plant that has long slender leaves. Its flowers appear in spring, as clusters of small, very fragrant, deep yellow, flat cup-shaped flowers. Narcissus jonquila bulbs should be planted outside - two to three times as deep as the bulb is long - in borders or containers in autumn, on a shallow layer of gravel or grit. They will flower best in a sunny position. They prefer a moist soil during the growing season but will die if too wet when dormant, so always provide good drainage when planting - especially on heavy soils.
