    Sensitive Fern Overview

    Onoclea sensibilis is a rhizomatous fern species from the Aspleniaceae family. This fern has broad leaves that can grow to 60cm in length. Commonly known by the names Sensitive Fern, Bead Fern and Japanese Ostrich Fern. This is a deciduous, water-loving fern, which is quick to spread. The sterile bipinnate fronds are large and wide while the fertile fronds look like a small group of green balls growing on the leaf stalk. Sensitive Fern preferx to be in wet, shaded areas. It has been awarded a Garden Merit from the RHS.
