Jasmine box Overview

A genus that comprises 2 species of evergreen shrubs in the Oleaceae family originating from the Mediterranean and now naturalised in the Canary Islands and Madeira. They have simple oval leaves and greenish-white clusters of flowers followed by dark coloured berries and they resemble the closely related olive. P. latifolia is commonly known as mock privet and when cultivated is best grown in a sunny position in well-drained soil. It can also tolerate salty air so is useful in coastal areas.
