A small genus of 3 species of tall annual or perennial flowering plants in the Malvaceae family. One species, M. trifida, native to the Mediterranean region, is commonly cultivated as a garden ornamental for its showy, papery, salver or trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of white, pink or purple, often with attractive veining patterns in a darker shade.
