Spider Lily 'Maiden's Blush' Overview
Tradescantia fluminensis 'Maiden's Blush' is an attractive evergreen perennial in the spiderwort family, Commelinaceae. It can be used as groundcover in non-frost-prone climates. It has attractive foliage that develops from pink, to a white-green splashed pattern and produces white, 3-petalled flowers throughout the year. Not free-flowering. In mild climates its a garden ornamental, cultivated for borders and also used in beds and pots. Also grown as indoors as a houseplant, this species requires bright, indirect light and won't cope with freezing temperatures well. This plant requires a good amount of light and some pruning for the best outcome. When planted in hanging containers, the attractive foliage cascades down with a trailing habit. Plants in the genus Tradescantia have until recently been commonly known as ‘Wandering Jew’. This name is no longer used by the horticultural world due to its historical use in supporting antisemitic stereotypes.
