Sweet olive Overview
A genus of around 30 species of evergreen shrubs and small trees in the Oleaceae family with a cosmopolitan distribution from the Himalayas, through parts of Asia, Europe, Southeast Asia and isolated islands of the Pacific and North and Central America. They have glossy, leathery opposite leaves and sprays of small, tubular, usually fragrant flowers and dark oval fruits. Some species are popular in cultivation where they are often grown as park landscaping plants and in gardens where they do best in a woodland setting.
