Azalea Overview
Azalea was a genus containing slow-growing, spring-blooming shrubs that tolerate shade well, often surviving near to or underneath trees. These plants were selectively bred for many many years and there are now thousands of different cultivars, in a wide range of colours. They are native to Asia, Europe and North America but are prized as ornamental species and now grown in most areas of the world. Now thought better placed in the genus Kalmia.
