Buckthorn Overview

A genus of more than 100 species of deciduous or evergreen, sometimes spiny shrubs and trees in the buckthorn family. This genus is native to subtropical and temperate regions in both hemispheres of the world. Introduced as garden specimens in several countries, some species have become invasive in non-native habitats. Attractively variegated cultivars have been bred and in gardens some varieties are useful for coastal planting schemes.
