    Colletia Overview

Small genus originating from South America, it contains around 5 deciduous, spiny shrubs which usually lack foliage. They are capable of photosynthesising from both their spines and stems. Succulent blue-green spiny shoots have replaced leaves in this genus and they are grown for this interesting characteristic and for their abundance of small, tubular flowers. Common flower colours are red-pink or white.
