Sonchus asper can be either an annual or biennial flowering plant that mostly considered a weed. It is a native plant from the temperate areas of Europe through to the east coast of Russia and including north Africa. It has since naturalised to temperate areas around the world. Its leaves are edible and can be treated as a leaf vegetable.
