The genus Weigela contains around 11 hardy, deciduous shrubs from the Caprifoliaceae family. These plants produce conspicuous, funnel-shaped blooms. Adapted to woodland edges in Eastern Asia, this genus is grown for its pretty, 5-petalled, 4cm long white or pink, sometimes red or yellow flowers. Cultivars with red-purple and variegated foliage have been produced for ornamental garden use.
