Angel Wings Overview
Caladium is a small genus containing around 12 tuberous perennials which are grown for their striking arrow-shaped foliage. They are commonly referred to as Elephant's Ear or Angel Wings due to their leaf shape and these plants have been extensively cultivated to produce ornamental species which are very popular as houseplants. Foliage is colourful and can be various shades of green, white, cream, pink, red and purple. These plants cope well with low-lighting, preferring placement out of direct sunlight, which can damage the colourful leaves. Flowers resemble those of calla lilies, with shorter spathes and usually only white colouration. Originally from tropical climates, most species are native to South and Central America, but have now been domesticated in India and Africa. Over 1000 cultivars have been bred from the species Caladium bicolor!
