Roscoea is a genus containing around 24 perennial plants which originate from the Himalayas, China and some parts of Central and South Asia where they inhabit tropical or mountainous regions. They have flowers that resemble those of the orchid family and some are cultivated as garden ornamentals for their attractive showy blooms. They thrive in rock gardens if given some shade but, coming from regions with an annual monsoon, they do require some moisture in the Summer.
