A genus of deciduous or evergreen trees in the Meliaceae (mahogany) family native to Africa and Madagascar with 6 accepted species. They have often buttressed trunks, divided, pinnate leaves and loose sprays of yellow flowers followed by spherical seed capsules. They are usually cultivated for their timber which has similar qualities of durability and pest-resistance to true mahogany.
