Duckweed Overview

Lemna is a genus of aquatic plants from the Lemnoideae (duckweed) subfamily in the Araceae family with 14 recognised species. They have a native cosmopolitan distribution worldwide and are also naturalised in many countries. They are free-floating plants composed of individual thalli that can spread rapidly. In cultivation they are used as animal feed, for the production of biopharmaceuticals and as a model plant system to study ecology and toxicology.
