Members of this small genus are endemic to moist woodlands in the West Coast of the USA and are in the barberry family. They have attractive divided leaves and in Summer, sprays of small yellow or white blooms that earn them the name “inside-out flowers”. In cultivation they are happiest in damp, shady areas where they spread by rhizomes and are good for groundcover.
