    Hibiscus Overview

Hibiscus is a genus of deciduous or evergreen shrubs and trees or annual and perennial herbaceous plants in the Malvaceae family with a wide distribution throughout warm temperate, subtropical and tropical regions worldwide. There are around 240 accepted species in this genus, distinguished by their large, showy trumpet-shaped flowers that come in a range of colours. Some species are cultivated as garden plants, notably H. syriacus or the rose of sharon, which is popular in temperate zones.
