Prinsepia Overview

Genus of around 4 hardy, deciduous shrubs which normally possess spines. They are grown for their flowers, fruits and general growth habit. Flowers are scented, cup-shaped, coloured white or yellow, with 5-petals. These develop into spherical red or purple fruits which resemble cherries. These are best grown in a shrub border, particularly against a wall or as a hedge.
