Heliophila Overview
Heliophila is a genus with approximately 82 annual or perennial species in the mustard family, Brassicaceae. Some are grown as ornamentals and most are endemic to Southern Africa, with some species found in the Namib Desert and most species occurring naturally in the Cape Floristic Region. These plants produce attractive flowers in a range of colours including blue, white, purple and pink. They are 4-petalled and most often blue-purple in colour, with white blotches at the petal bases in the centre and yellow central parts. Petals may be rounded and wide or narrow, with more pointed tips and they often have darker veining.
