Spike Rush Overview
Eleocharis is a large genus containing around 295 species in the Cyperaceae family, with a worldwide distribution and a centre of diversity in the rainforests and mountain slopes of South America. Known commonly as Spike Rushes or Spike Sedges, these plants grow in aquatic habitats and are distinguished by their lack of photosynthetic leaves; instead they have green photosynthetic stems.
