Thaumatophyllum Overview

Thaumatophyllum is a newly recognised genus that contains approximately 21 species. In 2018 these plants were moved to Thaumatophyllum from the genus Philodendron, where they were nested within a subgenus called Meconostigma. These plants are impressive evergreen shrubs, trees or climbers. They are typically grown for their large foliage, which is borne on long stems up to a metre in length. Leaves are ornate, they change structure with age and often develop into complex pinnately divided or many-lobed structures. Flowers are cream-purple and all parts of this plant can cause severe discomfort if consumed.
