Stone Plant Overview

This genus of small, stemless succulent plants in the Aizoaceae (ice plant, carpet-weed or vygies in South Africa and New Zealand) family is native to South Africa. Their grey-green globe-shaped fleshy leaves often resemble a pile of pebbles (common names include stone plant) and when they do flower they produce yellow or orange daisy-like blooms from the centre of the leaves. They are popular cultivated ornamental specimens, usually grown under glass in full light and a standard cactus compost.
