Small genus with just 2 recognised species commonly known as cocksfoot or orchard grasses. This genus resides in the grass family, Poaceae and contains perennial tussock-forming species that produce bushy flowerheads containing small and inconspicuous flowers. Species are recognised as belonging to this genus by their stem structure, which has a flattened base many other grass species do not possess.
