Bitterwort Overview

A genus of around 19 species and several varieties of herbaceous or evergreen perennial alpine plants in the Montiaceae family native to parts of Northwestern America where they inhabit North-facing cliffs. They have rosettes of fleshy succulent leaves and salver or open trumpet shaped flowers in a range of colours and patterns. In cultivation they are usually grown in rockeries or planters with free-draining substrate to mimic their native habitat.
