Davidia Overview

Contains one species of hardy deciduous tree known as handkerchief trees after their showy white hanging flowers. They are native to Central, South and Southwest China, however they are widely cultivated in other regions for their large, pretty inflorescences, which are actually enlarged leaves known as bracts, surrounding a smaller flower. They grow around 20-25m tall, producing heart-shaped toothed leaves and flowers are best in late May.
