This is a compact semi-deciduous shrub about 45cm tall. It has small oval leaves with finely-toothed edges. In the spring it will produce 6-12mm wide dusky red, bell-shaped flowers. The fruits are edible blue-black berries. This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Upright, many, young shoots 3-angled. ROOT: Creeping underground stem.
