Echeveria is a genus that contains over 150 evergreen or deciduous subshrubs and evergreen succulents. They originate from the semi-desert climates in Mexico, Central and South America. Many plants in this genus are popular around the world, they are often grown in borders with other succulents or as houseplants. They form regular, symmetrical, often colourful rosettes of fleshy, spiky leaves and their urn-shaped flowers are long-lasting, borne on long stalks. Bright colouration typically occurs on leaf margins from autumn to spring when growing in bright sunlight. They do not tolerate frost and should be kept above 5ºC under glass or indoors in chilly winters.
