Bee Balm Overview
The Monarda genus has around 22 species of annual or perennial flowering plants in the Lamiaceae (mint, dead nettle) family endemic to North America. They are clump-forming, aromatic plants with slender, oval leaves and whorls of tubular flowers clustered into spiky dense flowerheads Commonly known as Bee Balm and Bergamot, among other colloquial names. Monarda plants are grown for their diverse flower colours and forms and thrive in sun and well-drained soils.
