Arborvitae Overview

This is a small genus containing about 5 evergreen conifers. They are upright with straight trunks, and are covered in deeply fissured fibrous bark. The foliage is aromatic and will produce sprays of scale-like-needle-like leaves. Like most conifers, there are woody fruits called cones.

You can propagate from seed sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true).

Cuttings

Evergreen current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.
