If you already have Candide but haven't recently updated your app, you'll need the latest version to use Plant ID. Simply update your app here.
Plant ID has been trained to read and recognise images, so the picture you submit for Plant ID is really key!
Ensure images are clear, in focus and not blurry, they should feature both the leaves and flowers of a plant (if it has both) and the plant you want to ID should form the main focus of the image, try to avoid cluttered backgrounds.
Read on for 5 easy steps to identify plants using Plant ID
Navigate to the Knowledge tab or use the activity launcher on the main feed. Tap on the "Identify" option located at the top of the page.
Take a photo of the plant you want to identify, try to position it within the dotted lines or choose an image from your library.
Check your image is clear and in focus, tap "Retake" to try another photo. Then tap on "Identify", sit back and watch the app do all the hard work for you!
You will now see a range of possible plants, you can look at the plant records suggested in more detail here and if your plant has been correctly identified, tap on “This is my plant”.
It's likely you'll get a genus result here. The notation spp. indicates a genus, this is a group of related plants. Narrowing a plant down to a specific genus is the first step to an exact identification.
Plant ID will become more specific and accurate over time, returning more species level results.
If you can't see a match, scroll to the bottom and you can "Ask the community" for help. This posts your picture to the feed for fellow gardeners to interact with.
Select "Done" to navigate back to the main app, "Post your identification" to share with the Candide community or "Share" to share your identification outside of Candide.
At the bottom of this page you can find your saved identifications, you can view your entire Plant ID history here. They may also be found in the sidebar, under "Saved"
