On Sunday the 9th of May, down your tools and join plant lovers across the UK to celebrate Garden Day 2020!
What is Garden Day?
Garden Day is a nationwide event to raise awareness of the benefits green spaces can have on our mental and physical health.
From houseplants hoarders to grow-your-own fanatics, we are encouraging plant lovers everywhere to take some time to appreciate gardens and take pride in their accomplishments, no matter the size.
Highlights of Garden Day 2020
Last year, we celebrated Garden Day virtually across the country. Gardens, nurseries and non-essential shops and had shut their doors following the first lockdown in March. Despite this, Garden Day celebrations persisted online, with fellow gardeners coming together virtually across the country.
- The show must go on
Even in a full-lockdown, there was a strong sense of togetherness, with social media flooded with garden picnics, flower crowns and videos!
- Going viral
We took TikTok by a storm with our garden dance challenge! Gardeners across the country showed us their best moves, celebrating gardens, green spaces, and everything that falls in between.
- Learning and growing together
We joined Lisa Snowden for a virtual gathering on zoom, watching live garden tours, flower crown-making, cooking tutorials and more throughout the weekend.

How can I join in Garden Day celebrations on the 9th of May?
People are invited to down tools, pop on a flower crown and share the day. This year we're extremely lucky to have eased restrictions in the UK, just in time for Garden Day weekend! Make sure you're following the up to date UK guidelines before organising small get-togethers with family and friends, and take full advantage of free covid tests on GOV.UK!
Make sure to head over to the Garden Day website to download a toolkit with downloadable content and guides to inspire you! Or read our own article on the different ways to celebrate this year:
