Red Oak Overview
Quercus rubra is a large, deciduous tree species from the Fagaceae family. Commonly known by the names Red Oak, American Red Oak and Northern Red Oak. This hardy tree grows best in full sun to partial shade, in moist, well-draining soil on the acidic side of the pH scale. Forms an open, spreading crown with age. Leaves are lobed, measuring up to 22cm long, they display attractive autumn colouration, turning red and brown in autumn. Flowers are non-showy, coloured green.
