This dwarf evergreen bamboo prefers acidic soil and can form a low creeping carpet when given the shady moist conditions similar to it's native Japan. It is occasionally sold as Pleioblastus pygmaeus or Pleioblastus variegatus and the common names of Dwarf Bamboo or Pygmy Bamboo.
