Blue Passion Flower Overview
Passiflora caerulea is a fast-growing, semi-evergreen climber that produces unique and large (8cm) blue-purple and white flowers during the summer and into autumn. It has dark-green, deeply-lobed lobed leaves. A hardy woody vine, this stunning plant can reach 25m (82') in height, using its tendrils to climb up supports or nearby trees, making it an ideal cover for sheltered, south or west-facing walls. Preferring warmer conditions, Passion Flowers also enjoy being grown in conservatories and can be easily grown in large containers. They like moist, well-drained soil and full sun or partial shade. Commonly known as Blue Passion Flower, this South American native will produce oval orange fruit from its second year. In warmer climates with longer growing seasons, these fruits ripen but are considered bland in comparison to Passiflora edulis (Passion Fruit) Passiflora caerulea has earned a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
