Tassel Hyacinth Overview

Bulbous, deciduous perennial that produces striking purple-blue flowers with tufted tops, growing to between 15-40cm high. Each bulb possesses only 1 to 2 leaves, these are narrow and arching. Flowers are bell-shaped and don't typically exceed a centimetre in length. These are produced on a triangular raceme structure. This is a form of unbranched inflorescence where the oldest flowers are formed at the base and new blooms from the tip as the plant grows. Flowers at the top of the raceme are sterile and bright blue to violet-blue in colour, tending towards brown-green coloured fertile flowers at the bottom, these open from dark blue buds.
