Pink Banana Overview

Evergreen perennial in the Musaceae (banana and plantain) family. They spread by suckering and are characterised by their large paddle-shaped leaves that form a false stem, hence although they can grow as high as trees, they are not woody and are technically giant herbs. This species typically reaches 2.5m tall and 1.5m wide. Producing vivid pink flowers with showy pink modified leaves around them (bracts), then inedible pink banana-like fruits. They are popular in gardens but will need winter protection in colder regions.
