Hebe 'Silver Dollar' Overview
Hebe 'Silver Dollar' is a rounded, dense shrub that is evergreen. It has grey-green, glaucous, variegated leaves which have a pink tinge - more marked at the tips and in spring/winter - and cream margins. Pale mauve flowers are produced in late spring and early summer but they aren't prolific. Hebe 'Silver Dollar' is particularly popular with gardeners for its bright foliage throughout the winter months. Low-maintenance and drought tolerant, this cultivar is suitable for many different garden situations, including beds and borders, rock gardens and patio pots. Hebes prefer a slightly alkaline and not too fertile, well-drained soil, but they do like to be watered in the growing season if it's very dry. They like to be sheltered from cold, dry winds. In general however, they are a tolerant group of plants that withstand pollution well. Previously known as 'Hebe' these plants have been re-classified as being part of the Veronica genus and their name change was announced by NATAG (RHS Nomenclature and Taxonomy Advisory Group) in the December 2020 edition of The Plant Review.
