Elaeagnus × submacrophylla is a vigorous evergreen shrub that has dark leathery metallic green leaves. In autumn it can produce small and fragrant silvery flowers that can develop into orange berries. This plant will tolerate chalky soils but may develop chlorotic leaves, it grows best in well-drained soil in full sun and may cope with dry soil and coastal wind. This plant has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Award of Garden Merit. It is also part of the RHS “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen. A great choice for encouraging pollinating insect wildlife into your garden!
